The Panel
The Insurance Ombudsman (AAS) operates through one or more Panels.
Each AAS Panel is composed of five members, all appointed by IVASS:
- the Chair and two members are selected by IVASS;
- one member is selected by the trade associations representing undertakings and intermediaries respectively;
- one member is selected by the National Council of Consumers and Users (CNCU) representing customers, and by the trade associations representing non-consumer customers respectively.
The Chair is appointed for five years, the other members for three years; the term may be renewed only once for the same position and only once in a different position.

All panel members must satisfy specific requirements of expertise, professionalism, impartiality and independence. They are chosen from among university professors, retired magistrates, professionals enrolled in professional rolls with seniority of at least twelve years, and employees of the Supervisory Authorities, including those in service, provided that they have ceased performing supervisory duties for at least two years.
The activities of the Technical Secretariat of the Panel are carried out by IVASS.
The Technical Secretariat checks that the documentation is complete, correct and meets the deadlines, and carries out the administrative activities necessary for the functioning of the Ombudsman, including the preparation of the file, communications to the parties concerned, verification of the implementation of decisions by undertakings and intermediaries.
